Oulu Artists Association 60th anniversary exhibition
Misha del Val was invited to curate (online) the Oulu Artists Association's 60th anniversary exhibition. The event took place in Valvegalleria, Oulu, from 4.10. to 5.11.2023.
Curator's statement:
I’ve made a plan for an exhibition with a selection of 35 artists for the juhlanäyttely in Valvegalleria. Since this is an Anniversary Exhibition, and a celebration of the Oulu Artists Association, I’ve tried my best to be as inclusive as I could, and involve as many artists as possible, without the space looking crowded.
For that reason, in general, I have favoured smaller works over larger ones. And newer ones over those older. I have also tried to find a balance between more established artists and emerging ones, with the intention of providing an opportunity for those who might find it harder to see their work exhibited elsewhere. The exhibition include artists from a wide range of ages, and artworks from a spectrum of different mediums and technics. A further criteria favoured works that, at least to the extent of my somewhat limited knowledge, haven’t been seen in Oulu yet.
Some works of fine quality haven’t unfortunately found their place in the show, either because of their size, or because they were ‘loners’ in their approach or subject matter, making it difficult to establish resonances with the whole. A couple of applications were unfortunately incomplete.
