Raisa's Online Boutique
Raisa Raekallio´s first tasting experience (after mother´s milk) was the juice of a chubby cloudberry from a swamp humming with mosquitos in Kittilä, Finnish Lapland. At the Institute of Fine Arts in Lahti, while flirting with the oil paints, she finally learned to drink coffee properly. Since 2013, she lives and dedicates herself to painting in the old wooden house built by the former school cook of the village, while enjoying Misha's Basque milky cinnamony desserts.
Through an intuitive listening process, the forest humming around, the whispers rising from the ground, the currents and vibrations experienced by the artist in the body, the marks find their way onto the paper. These elements settle into lacy protozoa, plants, maps, and tracks in portraits that usually take a feminine form. Raekallio’s works have been exhibited in Kiasma, Rovaniemi Art Museum, Aine Art Museum, Sirkka Arte Biennale in Kittilä, and Peep Space gallery in New York.
